SR500 Roaster Arrival, Roaster are in SF NOW

Friday, March 20th, 2015

OUR ROASTERS ARE IN SAN FRANCISCO !! And we’re looking at a Tuesday 3/24 ship starting with the oldest orders first

If you have not ordered yet, DON’T FORGET THE PRICE INCREASE of $10 starts SOON.

We WERE hoping for Friday (today) but customs delayed them another day. So we’re looking at a Tuesday ship. We’ll have them in the So. SF warehouse on Monday at about 2, BUT there’s NO chance of getting them across the bay and to the other warehouse for packing and shipping before like 7 PM. However… barring Flying Monkeys, we should be good to go Tuesday.

For simple efficiency, we may go ahead and do Fedex Labels (A LOT of them) on Monday post dated to Tuesday (so the arrival dates stay mostly accurate.) Many of you should see movement by late late Tuesday evening.

Good, right?

SR500 Coffee Roaster Arrival News

Thursday, February 19th, 2015

The latest news as of yesterday was that the freighter should now arrive closer to the end of March. We originally expected SR500’s end of February. But the Oakland port strike here is messing things up for everyone. And then there’s customs clearances which could go quickly or not, effecting unloading in Oakland.

The Coffee Project currently has the 6 lbs of beans offer on our site until the roasters are imminent. But we’re also getting a lot of pre orders stacking up already, and based on past history of this type of thing, there’s a chance I could sell out of our incoming order before the NEXT freighter arrives in (I’m guessing) May. As supplies dwindle and arrival gets closer, the present online offer will end.

Coffee Project SR500 Fresh Roast Home Coffee Roaster. Best Home Roaster.

The manufacturer has also requested all Freshroast vendors raise prices to a $179 MAP (+$10) with his wholesale price increase at the end of March. So all lots of reasons to pre-order NOW, even if the SR500 coffee roasters are still many weeks away.

(You know what? even think about ordering some for next Christmas. Yeah, really. Six lbs of beans and a $10 bump coming up? An order of 4 roasters is $40 bucks less and you get 24 lbs of beans to roast in the meantime. Just sayin.)

If there’s any good news, it’s that The Coffee Project has typically been able to start shipping within half a day of a freighter unloading and supplies reaching the warehouse. Most of our competition have to wait for their supplies to arrive by truck to them before they can ship. To the Midwest or East Coast that’s another 4-5 days before their shipping can even start. So in addition to a great short term deal going on, The Coffee Project is generally way ahead in super fast shipping of FreshRoast roasters.

Error message problem loading SR700 software. What do I do??

Monday, November 10th, 2014

Uninstall all programs that have to do with the roaster, restart the computer and follow these directions:

First, download Peazip (others work, this one is recommended by the manufacturer.) http://peazip.sourceforge.net/ This is the 3rd party program that will open the file

Download the latest available software.
Your computer will start the download.
Open the file, PEAZIP should open the file
It will have a folder called FRESH BEANS SR700
double click the folder.
Now there are 2 things in the folder SYSTEM and SETUP
Double click System.
Now it gives you three options,
Windows 7 32 bit,
Windows 7 64 bit or,
Windows XP
Select your system.
A warning will come up, click OK
and it should start the install wizard for the software. Just like the CD.

SR700 Home Coffee Roaster

SR700 Computer controlled home coffee roasting right out of the box.

This is the SR700 home coffee roaster. This short video is not a full roasting cycle, it’s just a quick demonstration of what this home roaster does. With the SR700 you can create, change, save, and share your coffee roasting profiles.

Similar to the SR500 home roaster there is a High, Medium, and Low heat setting, with fan speed control, and timer. The SR700 also has a USB port. When connected by USB you’ll the indicator light on the computer screen goes green.

To operate the roaster from the computer use the right arrow to toggle through settings. Use the up down arrows to change the settings: Fan, Time, Heat.

By clicking the program button you can manually create, append, and delete up to twenty steps in a roasting curve. Just save these steps to the computer for future use. Since the files are stored on your computer there is no limit to the number of roasting profiles you can create.

The program window in this video is a little hard to see, but it shows four steps plus the final cooling step. As the video plays you can see the countdown timers, the fan speed changes, and the heat setting change at each step, both on the screen and the roaster itself.

Notice these things in the video:

• Notice the count up timer in red within the program window, and the count down timer on the control panel.

•Notice the temperature change on the control panel.

•Notice that time is in tenths of a minute. Not seconds.

• Notice the temperature change as fan speed and H M L temp settings change.
Temperature can go from go from C. to F.

The base works on manual too just like the SR500 FreshRoast.  The roaster comes with the application on disc, but updates to the software will be available by download too as they occur.

Q:  Excellent site. So how do I become a subscriber?

A: Thanks very much!  We can add you to the newsletter list.  News comes out near the end of each month.  Currently we have the February birthday code going.  ” FEB BD ” will take 10% off beans until the end of the month. If you let me know your birthday month you’ll get a code ahead of time.

That’s about it.  Do you roast now?  Which roaster?

Q:  First thanks for adding me to your newsletter list.  Per your request my birthday month is March. Yes we currently roast using the traditional cast iron method.

I’m in search for an old school (preferably a manual) natural gas fired Colombian/ Brazilian cast iron roaster that does the 10 lbs plus per cycle, can you offer up any potential sources?

A:  Maybe try http://roastersexchange.com/

Birthday codes

Q:  Can I get the 10% off on the Gene Cafe Roaster coffee machine?  it is my birthday month.

A:  Unfortunately birthday codes only work on beans, not roasters.

Gene Refurb?

Friday, January 17th, 2014

Q:  I have an old Gene roaster, 2007. It’s not getting hot enough any more.  Can you do refurbishing? or sell the parts that would help me get roasting again? Cost?

A:  We don’t do refurbishing at The Coffee Project but you can get it done for about $100 bucks by sending it to the US Importer in MA.  If it’s just the heater assembly, then it will be $89.00 installed, plus shipping.  There is a chance with an, ’07 model you will also need to update the CPU ($22) and temp sensor ($19).  All parts replaced would carry a one year warranty.
